John Deere Tractors and Your Peanut Crop

August 1, 2025

Peanut harvest season in South Georgia means long days, tight schedules, and no margin for error. From digging and inverting to hauling and cleaning, every step of the process relies on dependable, well-matched equipment.

At Lasseter Tractor Company, we understand the demands of peanut farming in places like Moultrie, Tifton, and Douglas. We also know that having the right John Deere tractor family can make harvest more productive and less stressful. For peanut growers in our area, the John Deere 6M Series and 8 Series tractors deliver the power, precision, and durability needed to keep the harvest moving.

John Deere 6M Series Tractors

For smaller peanut operations or those running lower-capacity harvesters, the 6M Series is an excellent choice. With models ranging from 110 to 195 horsepower, these tractors provide enough muscle for fieldwork while maintaining the maneuverability needed in tight rows.

Advantages of the 6M Series during harvest:

  • Strong PTO and hydraulic output to operate peanut diggers and inverters
  • AutoTrac™ readiness for precise row tracking and reduced operator fatigue
  • High ground clearance and tight turning radius for in-row work
  • Durable construction for long days in the field

The 6M Series is a great match for growers who need dependable performance without overinvesting in more horsepower than their equipment requires.

John Deere 8 Series Tractors

For larger peanut operations using high-capacity, multi-row harvesters, the 8 Series is built to handle the heaviest workloads. This series offers advanced technology and horsepower levels starting at 230 and climbing past 400, making it ideal for covering more acres in less time.

Why the 8 Series is a favorite for big harvests:

  • High horsepower and torque for demanding pulling and PTO loads
  • Spacious, comfortable cab for long days in the field
  • Integrated Precision Ag technology for accuracy and efficiency
  • Superior hydraulic performance for modern peanut harvesting equipment

The 8 Series is the go-to choice for peanut growers who need maximum productivity from sunup to sundown.

Tractor Attachments and Peanut Harvest Tools

Whether you run a 6M or 8 Series tractor, the right attachments can make peanut harvest more efficient. We offer:

  • Front loaders for moving bins, debris, or materials around the barnyard
  • Hitches and drawbars for towing harvest wagons
  • Hydraulic kits for powering peanut harvesters
  • Weight and ballast systems for stability in soft soils

Our team can help you customize your tractor setup for your acreage, harvester size, and hauling needs.

Just outside Douglas, GA, you’ll find a little farm with a big story. Laniebug Farms, owned and operated by John Hayes, is more than just a blueberry and blackberry operation. It’s a place where family roots and farming dreams grow side by side. Our team had the chance to spend some time with John and his daughter on what most would consider one of the dog days of late summer in south Georgia. Already post this year’s blackberry harvest, we walked through the spent fields where this year’s canes will eventually give way to next year’s fruit as John shared his story.
